NY natives Swizz Beatz and A$AP Rocky recently rode on bikes through the Bronx streets to talk Hip hop ahead of the second No Commission: Art Performs event set to take place in The Bronx, NY. In promotion of the event that will take place next week, Rocky and Swizz bike through the streets talking the beginnings of Hip Hop, the event itself, and hitting up several locations, such as Cedar Playground, and the birthplace of Hip Hop, 1520 Sedgwick Ave.
Similar to the new Netflix series The Get Down, this tour through The Bronx by Swizz and Rocky gives major credit to New York, specifically Kool Herc’s former home. The Get Down is a cultural documentation about New York giving life to rap music in times of dire straits and all the way up to today, New York’s efforts will never go unnoticed, even when it comes to the art realm.
Swizz’s first event took place in December at Art Basel Miami and because of the success it garnered, he now wants to bring it to his hometown in New York. Artists Swoon, and Tomokazu Matsuyama make cameos in the video. They both had artwork at the previous event and give credit to New York for inventing such an incredible phenomenon that is hip-hop, and how it connects to the art world as well. The artists who will have art for sale at the event will be able to show their pieces to the gallery for free, and take home 100% of the proceeds that they earn. This event will be important to commemorate, and aid in the both the Hip Hop and art culture that New York has established.
