Bobby Ross Avila tackles issues of racism and police brutality head-on with his first single release. Avila teamed with Jasiri X and King Tech, drawing inspiration from Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” and the passion of the Civil Right Movement to craft the song.
“I have first hand experience dealing with how the police abuse their authority at will. The police falsely accused me of committing a burglary, arrested me and locked me up as felon with a $70,000 bond attached to it. I had legally prove in court that I was accused based on falsified facts and they were still in denial even when the evidence proved that I was innocent. This has been happening for years. I’m just glad that we live in a world where technology is giving this issue exposure. This is not a brown, black or white issue. This is a people issue. I hate what I see going on, it’s disturbing on every level,” Avila shared with MTV.
“We can clearly see we have a problem with policing and we still haven’t addressed it in a real way,” Jasiri X added.
