About Jenny Wren:
“Rare bird. Brown girl. Desert child. These are the words 22 year-old Jenny Wren uses to describe herself. The Albuquerque native made the pilgrimage to Brooklyn in 2014, immediately captivating audiences with rousing, haunting folk sets…in the most unlikely of places. Wren is rapidly gaining a cult following at the raucous, fabled Brooklyn Wildlife parties, events known more for their fusion of hip-hop, rock, burlesque, theatrics and counter-culture.
“I write about love lost, God, pain, secrets, the temporary and the unseen,” she says of her work. Performing mostly in bars since 14, Wren recalls bouncers scrawling big black ‘X’s on her hands so no one would mistakenly serve her alcohol.
Prior to arriving in New York, Wren opened for acts like Cocrosie, Dessa, Aby Wolf and Lazerbeak. Her sets are transformative; taking listeners on a ride through turmoil, glory, shame, and love so intense, eager fans return, ready to climb right back on board.
BK Wildlife founder, Chris Carr threw an acoustic night and Jenny played acoustic guitar backing another singer. Carr invited Wren back leading to an eventual meeting with producer TeV95 and 95Labs.
About The Track:
That brings us to this cover of JUICY performed to an intimate crowd in Carr’s apartment a bluesy rendition of Notorious B.I.G.’s classic to lighten the mood (a crowd favorite at her shows).
Rare bird. Brown Girl. Desert Child. Listening to her music, one wonders what mysteries lie hidden beneath the surface of such modest words.
