What this is…
“The Human Element” is a compilation from 108 & High Times Records dedicated to shining the light on hip-hop’s oft ignored 5th element; beatboxing. The idea is to accomplish what “Return of the DJ” did for the DJ’s; gain recognition for their craft through a comprehensive display of what is offered by this technique.

Why you should listen…
Listening to a talented beatboxer can be a mind blowing experience. It is a talent that deserves every bit of the respect that emcees and DJ’s receive. This compilation certainly displays some excellent material, even though it is difficult to imagine a compilation of this sort without the legendary talents of Doug E Fresh, Biz Markie and Rahzel.
Why you shouldn’t listen…
There isn’t a beatboxer I’ve heard that can fuck with Rahzel, yet neither of Rahzel’s albums are any good. The reason, beatboxing doesn’t make for a listenable album. Just like many don’t want to listen to an entire album of cuts and scratches, an entire of beatboxing won’t work for a lot of people. By the end of the album, the usual mesmerizing effect of beatboxing wears off.

All in all…
I like this album, cause I love beatboxing. Yet I am not gonna put in this album to chill out and listen to, I’m not gonna throw it in my car, it just isn’t that type of album. It is hard to judge this album since there aren’t really any others to use as a basis for comparison. I think it really could have been better, some more conceptual pieces would have helped it from getting monotonous towards the end.
