I can go away do some other shit and bounce right back – DMX
When you get a soundtrack for a movie that is undeniably going to do well at the box office the goal is to set it off right. Cradle 2 the Grave is a movie that tackles the same story line as many other movies before it. It is nothing new. It has inspired the return of one of the grimiest cats in Hip Hop…DMX. The lead single “X Gon’ Give It To Ya,” is definitely not X’s best though. But the soundtrack does have some glorious moments.
The CNN and M.O.P collaboration “Stompdashitoutu” is a grimey banger that will arouse some feelings in many street cats. The intro song for the movie itself “Go To Sleep” featuring X, Eminem and Obie Trice is an explosion of lyrical notes including X’s potshots at Ja Rule. 50 Cent & The G-Unit shine as usual on “Follow Me Gangster.” Right now nobody will argue the fact the 50 and The G-Unit have the streets on smash. Ain’t no body spittin’ street anthems as raw as G-Unit and 50 and it will be sometime before we see another group of artists come out with this much vigor. It has to be something in the music and the voices, that brings 50’s reality to life. The Paperchase and Ez Elpee produced “I’m serious” by the Clipse is a tantalizing snare filled concoction of hotness that cruises along real well. “Fireman” by Drag-On who is also a co-star in the movie, is a track with sampled elements of the Temptations classic “Papa Was A Rolling Stone” and Drag blesses the beat in a simple way. The track is hot and Drags flow could’ve been better.
Finally, the salutation jump off kid, Joe Budden from Jersey, blazes a club-hopping track. Joe Budden is a new MC with a flow that will surely to be recognized as one of great lyrical qualities. “Drop Drop” is a soft testament to the flow that Budden has within in him. The track still heats it up none the less. Over all the entire soundtrack is very short on being a masterpiece but it does have its moments.
