“I was able to relax for five years,” he said, referencing the long wait between his albums CrasH Talk and Blue Lips. “I didn’t make that much money off rap. I made a lot of money off rap, but I would say golfing helped me a lot in times where I probably needed it.

“I made a lot of money off golf, like a lot, [from connections on the golf course] and offers. I made more than a lot of pro golfers. It’s not even cool. I hit a goldmine at the right time … they was just throwing any and anything at me.”
He added: “Golf is already popular but as soon as I started playing golf, the Hip Hop world embraced it more. And they would be lying if they say I didn’t.”

ScHoolboy Q went on to detail the downside of his golfing success, saying he was subject to racist treatment while immersed in the sport.
“That’s another reason why I made this album, certain lines and the term ‘Blue Lips’ ’cause it’s like, ‘Go be Black for those white people,'” he explained.
“That’s really how they was treating me and that’s why I stopped doing a lot of things golf ’cause I was like, ‘Woah.’ I started saying ‘no’ to things. These muthafuckas tell me, ‘Make sure he put his grill in.’
“They told me out on set. ‘Hey Keem, is Q gon’ wear his grill today? Can you make sure he put his grill in?’ … I’m like, ‘I ain’t putting a fucking grill in. I’m already Black.'”

He continued: “Like, how Black do they want me to fucking be?’ Goddamn. You can tell I’m Black. If you look at me, I’m Black. One of the things they got me shining a rim at the beginning of it … I’m like, ‘Bruh, I’m cool, bruh. I’m done with this shit, bruh.’
“But I made a lot of chicken and it’s not cool. But when a fucking golfer is grinding all day every day and the way they pay golfers? Bruh, you think streaming bad. Bruh, these golfers be in debt. In debt debt.”
