Best known as one half of the legendary duo Blackalicious, front man Gift of Gab is back on the scene with a new solo project, Escape 2 Mars, highlighting universal awareness and space age inspired sounds.

Often described as one of the most eminent lyricists to ever do underground Hip Hop, the Bay area rapper enlisted well-known emcees like Del tha Funkee Homosapien (Hieroglyphics) and Brother Ali, who are featured on the collaborative track titled “Dreamin’”, as well as Joyo Velarde and Lateef The Truthspeaker from Quannum Collective [Click Here] for the upcoming album.

In a recent press release, Gift of Gab discussed the inspirational content for the new album, “People are gonna think this is about Martians, but it’s not… It’s more so about taking care of the planet we’re on. We might have to escape to Mars or somewhere else if
we keep taking the planet we live on for granted,”
he said.

Escape 2 Mars, which will be available on CD, vinyl and digital download format, combines various mundane elements intermixed with an electronic sound scheme.  Production for the diversified album includes San Francisco based producer Dnae Beats in addition to Headnodic, producer for both Crown City Rockers and Gift of Gab’s most recent collaborative project, The Mighty Underdogs.

Some of the more electronic feeling songs were new territory me,” Gift of Gab states. “I didn’t really connect with much of that until we went out and did some shows with [electronic collaborative project] Bassnectarand I saw the culture shifting in front of me and thought it was a great thing,” he continued.
