HipHopDX has learned Eve will be added to the 2008 edition of VH1‘s Hip Hop Honors. Although the self-proclaimed “pitbull in a skirt” was not on the updated list of performers provided last month, co-executive producer Nelson George says it’s important female emcees continue to take part as both honorees and artists who tribute.
“Another thing we are trying to do, which has been a real challenge, is make sure women are involved,” says George, whose credits include the movie Life Support, BET‘s American Gangster and the book Hip Hop America. “This year Eve is going to be presenting, and she’s involved in paying tribute to one of our male honorees.”
In the past George has occasionally used his MySpace blog to give updates on the goings on behind the scenes at Hip Hop Honors. While there were no updates provided this year, George gave a few insights as to why Eve would be performing, when this year’s honorees are all male.
“The things happening within Hip Hop in a larger sense definitely affect the show,” says George. “In terms of booking people to do the tributes, I’m not saying something new when I say emcees with these types of skills are not coming out of the record companies on a regular basis right now. The artists themselves obviously have a lot of input into who tributes them, and they have their own thoughts and issues regarding who tributes them.”
