The Associated Press reports BET President Reginald Hudlin is vacating his post at the network. In an internal memo which was later made public Sept. 12, BET Chairwoman and CEO Debra Lee said Hudlin would return to his “entrepreneurial roots.” Since taking the position of president at BET in July of 2005, Hudlin made sweeping changes. He canceled the video show Uncut and helped usher in two of BET‘s highest-rated shows–Lil’ Kim: Countown to Lockdown and Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is.
Hudlin has writing or production credits in films such as House Party, Boomerang and Bebe’s Kids. He has also has production credits in television series’ such as The Bernie Mac Show, Everybody Hates Chris and The Boondocks. The latter drew the ire of BET for criticizing Lee and Hudlin‘s role in creating programming they felt glamorized degradation and ignorance in the black community [click to read].
“From the moment he joined the BET family, Reggie infused our program development with incredible creativity, energy and passion,” said Lee. “Under his leadership, the entertainment division produced 17 of the top 20 highest-rated shows in the network’s 28-year history.”

Stephen Hill, who is currently in charge of music programming and talent, will serve as interim entertainment president during the search to replace Hudlin.
