The Weeknd and Euphoria mastermind Sam Levinson were working on a new HBO show called The Idol and fans couldn’t wait to see what the two were going to cook up. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait as the show looks to be going through a change.

On Monday (April 25), Variety reported the Toronto crooner’s new show is undergoing a major overhaul after the team working on it decided to head in a new direction creatively. According to a press release from HBO, there are going to be updates made to the cast and crew.

“The Idol’s creative team continues to build, refine, and evolve their vision for the show and they have aligned on a new creative direction,” HBO said in the statement. “The production will be adjusting its cast and crew accordingly to best serve this new approach to the series. We look forward to sharing more information soon.”

The Idol was announced in June 2021, with The Weeknd signing on as a co-creator and actor. The story follows a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult who develops a romantic yet difficult relationship with an up-and-coming pop star.
