Big Sean has a dozen musical projects to his name since 2007, but lately, he’s been putting his acting career at the forefront. The rapper recently starred in the second season of Lena Waithe’s BET comedy series Twenties as Tristan, marking his first time playing a live-action fictional character.

His previous acting credit came in 2019 through the animated film Trouble, where he voiced a dog alongside Pamela Adlon and Lucy Hale. During a recent interview with TVLine, he revealed he was recently in talks with 50 Cent to collaborate on one of his many TV shows, but their schedules didn’t line up.
“I was actually supposed to do something with 50 [Cent], but it didn’t line up schedule-wise,” he explained. “But those are great people. BMF is one of my favorites right now. I love the Power universe — Raising Kanan and all of that. It’s fire.”
Speaking on the art of acting, Big Sean said, “It’s a different experience, for sure. A lot of doing it over and over again and hoping that they use the right take. There’s a lot of things you’re thinking about like, ‘Dang, I really like how I did it this way, and they might not use it because it [doesn’t] fit the director’s vision.’

Following Nipsey Hussle,Virgil Abloh and Chadwick Boseman’s deaths in recent years, Big Sean is determined to live out more of his dreams, including writing a book, making films and taking his music career to the next level.
“We’ve been losing a lot of close people,” he reflected. “We’ve been losing a lot of visionaries, a lot of peers, a lot of artists. You really realize how valuable your time is, so I’ve been like, ‘Man, I have to do all these things I’ve always wanted to do.’”

He added, “I want to write a book. I want to musically explore other things. I want to take it to different levels. I want to write movies. Time is so not guaranteed. You just have to do it.”
