Atlanta, GA

Despite Kanye West’s billionaire status, he’s living more like a college student these days. On Tuesday (July 27), the eccentric rapper shared a rare Instagram post of his living quarters at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where he’s been finishing his long delayed Donda album.

The modest room has cement walls, a twin bed, flatscreen television, clock, tiny closet, some workout equipment and grey carpet. It appears he’s also living out of a small black suitcase that’s propped up next to the closet. The post has received over 1.5 million likes and over 30,000 comments. Even without a caption, the photo kind of says it all.

Apple Music hosted theDonda listening event at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Thursday night (July 22). Although Kanye didn’t perform any of the songs, he did walk around the empty stadium floor wearing a full-faced mask and head-to-toe red as the sold-out crowd absorbed the music.

The album was then supposed to arrive on all digital streaming platforms at midnight EST on Friday (July 23), but it never did. As the disappointment became palpable on social media, REVOLT TV host Justin Laboy tweeted the project would now arrive on August 6.

He wrote in the caption, “ALBUM OF THE YEAR WILL BE RELEASED ON AUGUST 6th. THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE. TRUST ME IT’S GOING TO BE WORTH IT.”

Kanye opted not to leave the stadium to finish the record and instead, flew out producers such as Rick Rubin and Mike Dean to help him sew up the project. In addition to the makeshift bedroom, Kanye has also constructed a studio space and brought in a private chef to prepare his meals.

He was even spotted at the Atlanta United soccer game on Saturday (July 24) wearing the exact same outfit he wore at the Donda event, including the full-face mask.
