The latest batch of Jay-Z rumors is in. Since stepping down as the president of Def Jam, Jay has been linked to Apple, Yahoo and even former rival Steve Stoute. The latest news finds the New York Times hinting that Jay-Z will headline this summer’s Glastonbury Music Festival. In a recent article, (available HERE) the Festival’s founder, Michael Eavis, told the Times, “A New York rapper will be one of the headliners,” but the article also stated that Eavis refused to confirm or deny the rapper in question was Jay-Z.
“We’re trying to get youngsters to the festival this year,” says Eavis. “Hopefully the headliner will appeal to them. The Saturday slot is a wonderful Hip Hop artist from New York and a bit of a legend in my view.” Since Eavis has yet to name the artist, the term “legend” could apply to any number of New York artists. Numerous calls to representatives for Jay-Z were not returned to HipHopDX.
The Glastonbury Music Festival was established in 1970. Located in South West England, the festival bills itself as “the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world.” Promoters have expressed concern in the past, due to the festival’s inability to attract younger crowds. So far, Neil Diamond is the most notable act confirmed–not exactly a Hip Hop favorite. The festival will not take place until June, providing time for promoters to either continue using the rumor to boost ticket sales, or possibly wait for a denial or confirmation from Jay-Z himself. As usual, HipHopDX will provide updates as they are available.
