DMX has been vocal about his struggles with addiction and mental health over the years. During an interview for the BET documentary The Ruff Ryders Chronicles, the 50-year-old rapper talked about his multiple personalities, albeit reluctantly.
“They’re different things,” he said. “There’s a few things, a few people in me and they get me through life. I wouldn’t want anyone to know anything. I don’t talk about them. You already got me talking about them. Nope. They’re there to get me through life. I don’t know if I made ’em or if God gave ’em to me, or maybe circumstances and situations did.”
In another interview, DMX admitted he was tricked into smoking crack at 14, starting his long path to substance abuse issues.

“A monster was born,” he said of that moment. “I wouldn’t do that to my worst enemy. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. Especially for someone that you supposedly love. Why would you do that?”
DMX has been to rehab numerous times, most recently in 2019. The veteran artist was seemingly on his road to recovery and planning on releasing his first post-prison album featuring Snoop Dogg, The LOX, Griselda and U2’s Bono sometime this year.
Prayers are pouring in from Eminem, Ja Rule, Killer Mike, Ice Cube, Missy Elliott and more.
