The New York Daily News reports that DMX was hospitalized Thursday after the rapper passed out at Sony Recording Studios. Reporters George Rush and Jenna Molloy cite an unnamed source and also report that representatives from DMX’s camp have yet to return any calls on the matter.
The incident marks an unfortunate ending to what has been an up and down year for DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons. Earlier this week DMX signed a deal with the Canadian online gaming company Bodog Entertainment after being released from the three album deal he signed with Sony in January of 2006 (Click HERE for full story). Both Sony and DMX hoped the deal would produce the results that the artist found at Def Jam, where his first five albums sold at least 1 million copies and each debuted at number one on The Billboard 200 chart. At press time, the lone recording with Sony, Year of the Dog…Again, has sold 329,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In September DMX again found himself at odds with law enforcement. Maricopa County Az., officials were deciding if they wanted to press animal abuse charges against the rapper after finding two dogs buried on land at his Phoenix area home.
According to all reports Simmons seemed in good spirits in the days leading up to his alleged hospitalization. The rapper expressed gratitude toward Bodog Music and had already decided on names for his next two albums, Walk With Me Now and You’ll Fly With Me Later. Currently neither Bodog Music nor DMX’s representatives have confirmed or issued statements regarding the hospitalization report.
