Rapper and Actor Xzibit will join the cast of Oliver Stone’s next movie Pinkville. The project is a drama based on the Vietnamese My Lai Massacre of 1968. Over 300 people, a majority of which were unarmed women and children, were murdered during the incident, and Xzibit will portray an American soldier who believes he carried out his orders in a moral way.
“These execs and studios started offering film roles to me, and I only take the ones that I thought were going to be beneficial,” says Xzibit exclusively to HipHopDX. “XXX: State of the Union was attractive because of Samuel L. Jackson and the fact that I got to work with one of my icons, Ice Cube. It was an action movie, and every n***a wants to blow some shit up. In Derailed I got to smack around Jennifer Aniston with a Desert Eagle and I got a check. Church!”
Although his stint as the host of MTV’s Pimp My Ride is coming to an end, X made it clear that he has no plans to quit acting. “These are things that not only boost the profile, but also show the versatility of what I can do in front of the camera,” he says. “The transition feels natural for me. It’s not hard for me to memorize lines [and] I feel the emotion. I feel the characters. I’ve got a lot of respect for the craft and I read a lot, so I know what to look for.”
Oliver Stone’s previous credits include Wall Street, Platoon, JFK and Natural Born Killers. Pinkville will begin production in 2008 and features Bruce Willis, Woody Harrelson and Channing Tatum. After finishing a European tour, Xzibit is currently shooting American Inquisition with Alfre Woodard, Anthony Mackie, Charles Dutton and Tim Blake Nelson.
