Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, one third of the legendary, disbanded trio Run DMC might want to clear some space on the mantle. McDaniels won an Emmy award Tuesday for the VH1 documentary DMC: My Adoption Journey. The “VH1 Rock Doc” won in the News and Documentary category for Outstanding Arts and Culture Programming.

The documentary chronicles McDaniels’ search for his biological parents, and it finds him in a different place both spiritually and musically. DMC: My Adoption Journey also spawned McDaniels’ latest musical effort, Checks Thugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll, which finds him collaborating with Sarah McLachlan.

Naturally, DMC was pleased about the film’s critical acclaim, as he relayed via a message posted on his website.

“This wasn’t even a thought and was totally unexpected,”
said McDaniels. “It touched people’s lives and also helped a multitude of people. It’s confirmation of purpose and destiny, not only for me, but for all those who view it.” VH1 is re-airing the documentary on Saturday, September 29 at 10:00 p.m. EST.
