Last week, we brought you a story about a Hip Hop activist assaulted by Capitol Hill police while trying to enter the Congressional hearing on the war in Iraq.
Rev. Lennox Yearwood, head of the Hip Hop caucus suffered a broken leg at the hands of six officers after the officers blocked Yearwood’s entry to the hearing.
The incident, caught on YouTube shows Yearwood –dressed in all black with a white pen reading “I Love the People of Iraq– asking the officers why he was being singled out, and receiving no response. Yearwood pulled away from an officer who grabbed him and ended up on the receiving end of a takedown, reminiscent of the civil rights era.
According to an article from Black Agenda Report (one of few media outlets to cover this story), Yearwood has been charged with disorderly conduct and assault on police.

Nine other anti-war activist, including Cindy Sheehan (who took up the effort after losing her son in Iraq) were also taken into custody that day, but none of the other detainments resulted in a physical encounter.
