It seems that history has a way of repeating itself when it comes to award shows. As Kanye West and 50 Cent prepare for their “face off” on September 11, both artists experienced a bit of Deja vu at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards.

The AP reports that 50’s performance at the Hard Rock Hotel almost turned deadly when he started throwing money at fans. Spectators naturally rushed to collect some of the cash, causing part of 50’s sound stage and spotlights to almost fall into a nearby pool. When fans refused to listen to 50’s warnings to back up, he ended his show early.

Many may recall 50 almost being knocked off of a 25-foot platform during the Bet Awards this past July, when one of his dancers bumped into him during a performance of “Amusement Park.”

Meanwhile another award show shut out for Kanye led to yet another tantrum backstage at the VMA’s. AP reporters Ryan Nakashima and Kathleen Hennessey report that West was quite upset at losing in all five categories he was nominated in.

“That’s two years in a row, man…give a black man a chance,”
West said. “I’m trying hard man, I have the number one record, man.”West then reportedly said he would never return to MTV.

Apparently the scene was reminiscent of West’s outbursts at the 2006 MTV Europe Awards or the 2004 Grammy Awards, when West ranted for losing the Best New Artist award to Country singer Gretchen Wilson.
