In addition to a Gnarls Barkley sophomore album dropping in the fourth quarter of 2007, Cee-Lo is also working on his third solo album, and another Goodie Mob album. “The Soul Machine” gave Rolling Stone a progress report of sorts.

When asked about the next Gnarls Barkley project Cee-Lo said, “I’m trying to allow the music to happen as organically as it did the first time. But there’s a lot more self-awareness this time around, and a bit more pressure.”

Cee-Lo
also confirmed that he is working with Goodie Mob and that the group has “six or seven” songs completed already. While no details about a working title or which label the reunion project would be released on could be confirmed, Cee-Lo says reports of a bitter rift between the group members was exaggerated.

“Even through all the disputes and disagreements, we had to still be around each other,”
said Cee-Lo. T-Mo’s parents stay a street over from my grandmother.”

Additionally, the crossover appeal of Cee-Lo’s projects with Danger Mouse has afforded him the opportunity to cut another solo album. Animal Pharm front man Jack Splash hit the studio with Cee-Lo and apparently helped push the multi-talented vocalist’s sound in yet another direction.

“I realized I haven’t yet exhausted all possibilities,”
said Cee-Lo. “It’s like a new millennium Barry White. It’s kind of big-guy sexiness, big love.”
