Fresh off yesterday’s arraignment for beating her neighbor with a Blackberry PDA, Billboard reports that Foxy Brown has left Def Jam to form her own label under indie giant Koch Records. Foxy’s manager Chaz Williams, who is also CEO of Black Hand Entertainment, explained the rationale behind the move.
“Def Jam was really an artist situation with Foxy under Jay-Z,” he said. “She’s moved onto monetarily greener pastures by signing her record label, Black Rose Entertainment to Koch. She is the first artist and she wants to connect with her dancehall raggae roots. Foxy’s looking to sign up-an-coming Caribbean and U.S. artists. But she’s definitely the first and biggest artist on her label.”
While Brown’s two initial Def Jam offerings, Ill Na Na and Chyna Doll are certified platinum, she has yet to record a full-length album since 2001’s Broken Silence, which was certified gold. Recent years have seen Foxy become partially deaf, make headlines for numerous physical altercations and as the victim of an attempted robbery.

Under the terms of the deal with Koch, Black Hand will issue three albums annually. The first scheduled Koch album is expected to be Brooklyn’s Don Diva on December 4 with Black Roses slated for a release in 2008.
