Despite receiving his first RIAA certified gold single with “Play,”David Banner says 2006 was the worst year of his life. After making it through the death of his father and the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the Mississippi native is hoping to change things in 2007 with the release of his latest album Greatest Story Ever Told.

In a recent interview with Billboard Magazine, Banner explained what made last year so difficult for him and the direction he plans to take on his new offering, which is scheduled for an October 9 release.

“I’ve learned to say no and not to take on everyone’s problems,” he said. “My father had brain and lung cancer, and I had high blood pressure because I was working 18-hour days. You have to value the person you are.”

Greatest Story Ever Told will feature contributions from Cool & Dre, Jim Jones, UGK and others. Banner promised an equal mix of hits and thought-provoking tracks as well as a surprise.

“I did a rock song that’s probably going to get me hung,” he added. “Let’s just say the record was written three years ago–it’s just truthful.”

In the meantime, fans can catch Banner on the Rock The Bells Tour, and he should soon be in heavy rotation with his latest single “Speaker,” which features Akon, Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg.
