Various sources are reporting that T.I. was involved in an altercation with a fan at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel during a performance at Wednesday’s pre-party for ESPN’s annual ESPY Awards. Both MTV and TMZ.com report that T.I. leapt from the stage to confront a fan who threw an object at the rapper. T.I. allegedly struck the rowdy participant with his microphone, before security managed to escort the as-yet-unnamed person from the venue.
The mix-up caps off what has been an up-and-down month for the embattled Atlanta rapper, as his newest album T.I. Vs. T.I.P. is currently the number 1 album in the country with 486,000 copies sold during its first week. T.I. made similar headlines last month when he got into an altercation with Chaka Zulu of Ludacris’ Disturbing Tha Peace camp during a brunch hosted by Warner Music Group’s Executive Vice President Kevin Liles.
T.I., whose government name is Clifford Harris, issued a public apology for the latter incident during the BET Awards, and ESPN currently uses an edited version of his single “Big Shit Poppin’ (Do It)” as a promotional tie-in for their Who’s Now segment on the network’s flagship show Sportscenter. Neither ESPN or T.I.’s representatives have publicly acknowledged the incident yet.
