One element of Hip Hop that is often ignored by the mainstream and targeted by the government is graffiti.
Today, the element will take center stage at MTV.

The finals of ArtBattles will take place on TRL (check your local listings) with the winner getting a center shade spot at the MTV studio.

MTV hosted the first part of ArtBattles in May. The contest saw twelve artists compete for the coveted spot. After two hours of painting, 8 finalists (Concep, Nick Poe, Leif McIlwaine, Martina Kubinyi, Ben Angotti, Brian Ermanski, Kevin Ragnott and Megan Whitman) were selected.

Today, the pieces created at that May event will be on display for the world to see and a winner will be announced live on the air.

Created by Sean Bono in New York in 2001, ArtBattles began as a chance for artists to showcase their work in front of a crowd. Artists are given a blank canvas and a set amount of time to create a piece. When time runs out, similar to an emcee battle, the audience votes for their favorite piece.
