Missy Elliott is going to make history at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. The first female Hip Hop artist inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame will also become the first female rapper to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
On (August 12), MTV revealed Missy would be honored with the Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 VMAs. The announcement comes a year after some reports mistakenly said she would be getting the 2018 edition of the prize, which ended up going to Jennifer Lopez.
Missy reacted to her growing list of achievements, which include having the Top 3 entries on HipHopDX’s ranking of the 20 best rap albums by women, via Instagram.
“I am Humbly Grateful to be receiving the MichaelJacksonVideoVanguard Award,” she wrote. “I Thank my FANS ‘Supafriends’ who fought diligently to see this day come @KidFury @crissles who rooted for years! I am crying right now so thankful.”
