Teddy Walton is the sound architect behind chart-topping hits such as Goldlink‘s “Crew” and Kendrick Lamar‘s “LOVE.” and now he’s ramping things up with the impending release of his upcoming EP Mental Health.
On Thursday (October 12), the Grammy Award-winning producer presented a trailer highlighting a short film featuring narration from Bay Area icon Lil B. The short is set to be released in conjunction with Mental Health. The teaser shows off a montage of clips, including Teddy himself, as Lil B adds his commentary over Walton’s production. The clip ends with some encouraging words: “Create your own happiness.”
“Everybody is talking about mental health all the time,” Teddy says in a press release. “It’s something that’s become a way to diagnose everyone’s problems and sort of focus on the negative. My goal was to create a project that tells you about being happy.”
Teddy has been working on Mental Health for a while now. Late last year, HipHopDX got the opportunity to catch up with the Memphis hitmaker for our #DXHitList Sessions series on Spotify and he shared the moment he chose to take on the delicate topic through his music.

“The reason I named it Mental Health is because when I go home some people I know have it,” Walton explained to DX on how he came up with the concept. “I don’t feel like I have it, but I’ve talked to people without knowing that they have a mental illness. My mom works in that field, that’s what she wakes up every day to do. But one day, I was just chilling and Lil Yachty hit me like, ‘Hey, I got your verse just send me some beats.’ Yachty is a huge influence on the youth. If I get Yachty on my project, I’m definitely naming it something that means something. It’s going to sound crazy but it’s the fact that you’re going to learn something from it.”
