Wyclef Jean was awarded the key to the city of Brooklyn last Thursday (August 16) during a special ceremony at the annual Wingate Summer Concert Series. The award was handed to Clef on behalf of BK– and the 2.6 million folks who call it home — by Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, in front of a packed crowd that included his wife and daughter.
“I accept this key for the forgotten. If you can make it in Brooklyn, you can make it anywhere,” said Jean, whose storied career spans over 30 years. He and his family relocated from Haiti to Brooklyn when Clef was nine-years-old.
Next up for the Fugees founder is the September 6 release of his upcoming mixtape, Wyclef Goes Back To School. Back in March of this year, Wyclef noted that he was touring College campuses scouting for undiscovered talent to be included on the project.
Coinciding with the mixtape release on September 6, Clef’s Carnival Tour will be hitting The Sony Hall in Manhatten. The first single from the mixtape “Letter To Canibus” was also released on August 16.
