Rapper/actor Will Smith continued his box office success this weekend. Smith’s new movie, The Persuit of Happyness took in an estimated $27 million over the weekend to claim the number one spot.

picture is being lauded for its positive depiction of African American
fathers, something not seen often in the world of Hip Hop or media in

“It’s been a long time since a movie has touched me like this. I saw a lot of myself in him,”Kindred the Family Soul front man Fatin Dantzler told the Philadelphia Enquirer. “Unfortunately, this isn’t what we see most times,” he continued.
“Art often depicts reality and the reality Hollywood directors see is
what most people see in the media, black men in negative roles. Good
black fathers don’t see themselves on the news.”

Smith lead Happyness to box office victory over two other highly anticipated debut films, Charlotte’s Web and Eragon.
