After year and years of spearheading successful albums, Jermaine Dupri was rewarded a few years ago with a job as the head of Virgin’s urban music department. That position, for Dupri, is no more.
According to Fox411 JD quit his post after his girlfriend’s album flopped badly. JD‘s wifey is of course, Janet Jackson. The same reports indicate, his “quitting” was just a way of putting the nice on Virgin‘s brass forcing him out.
Janet‘s comeback album 20 Y.O. failed to move 500,000 units in 3 weeks and saw a staggering 77% drop in its second week. Failing to go gold in 3 weeks is hardly a cause for concern for most, but it is for one of the best selling female artists of all time.
JD has not left Virgin altogether though, as So So Def is distributed by Vigin. No telling how this will affect the relationship.
