Big Sean has always represented his hometown since the start of his career, and now city officials have given the G.O.O.D. Music artist a valued honor. The City of Detroit and Mayor Mike Duggan awarded the rapper with a key to the city on Saturday (April 1), due in part to Big Sean’s philanthropic efforts.
Sean posted an image to his Instagram of the city key, as seen above.
“Today I got one of the highest honors a person can receive, the key to the City Of Detroit. The mayor said he’s given it to 3 people… Stevie Wonder, Berry Gordy, and Me. I’m the youngest person to receive this in the history of the city!” the 29-year-old Sean wrote in the Instagram caption.
Sean Don added that the key was given because of the work done by the Sean Anderson Foundation, Sean’s non-profit that aims to aid and assist Detroit youth across a variety of educational focuses. The foundation also applies its program for other disadvantaged youth across the nation.

Sean also noted that the foundation’s “Mogul Prep” initiative will be taught this fall in high schools in Detroit and Baltimore, Md. The program was created in collaboration with his mother, Myra Anderson, a former schoolteacher.
In a report from CBS Detroit, about 100 students from local schools met at Detroit’s Madison Building to meet with Sean and Mayor Duggan. The mayor greeted Sean behind a backdrop that featured the hashtag “#MogulPrep.”
Sean’s fourth studio album, I Decided, is available now.
