Proof’s lawyer, David Gorosh issued a statement yesterday, disputing claims made about the incident that took the life of his client earlier this week.
Initial reports surrounding the shooting death of Deshaun Holton, known to the world as Proof indicate that he fired the first shot at Detroit’s CCC nightclub.
Gorosh says that is simply untrue.
“To indicate that Proof pulled the trigger first is reckless and quite frankly it will be proved to be untrue,” he told the Detroit Free Press.

Police say the rapper shot Keith Bender in the face before being shot himself by a bouncer working at the club.
Bender remains in critical condition as of press time.
Mario Etheridge, the man suspected of shooting Proof may not be charged in the incident if it is shown that he acted to protect another individual or acted in self defense.
A Detroit Free Press article states that, Etheridge, Bender’s cousin, opened fire as Proof stood over Bender and prepared to fire another shot. Proof was shot three times in the head and chest.

Randall Upshaw, an attorney for Etheridge stated that Proof fired his weapon first, a statement that Gorosh blasted in the media.
“It’s disingenuous to speak to the media to try and suggest that Proof shot first. There are ways to determine what shots were fired and by whom,” he said. “There’s an ongoing investigation”, Gorosh says of the statement.
Gorosh also noted that any statement on the matter before the police investigation is complete is ”premature”.
