As of late, Birdman has been painted as the big, bad wolf of Hip Hop for blocking the release of Tha Carter V, but it turns out the fate of the long-awaited album may not be in his hands after all.
TMZ reports that a source close to Birdman has revealed that Lil Wayne holds the master recordings for Tha Carter V.
Given that the Young Money rapper is in the middle of a lawsuit with Cash Money Records over money owed, Tha Carter V likely will not see the light of day until a monetary resolution is reached.
According to the source, Lil Wayne leaking the album is also unlikely given that he doesn’t want to release the album for free.

This latest news in the Birdman versus Lil Wayne saga comes days after Weezy appeared to announce his retirement on social media.
“I AM NOW DEFENSELESS AND mentally DEFEATED & I leave gracefully and thankful I luh my fanz but I’m dun,” Lil Wayne tweeted on September 3.
The rapper later clarified his comments during an appearance on FS1’s “Undisputed,” this week. He also revealed that he has no plans on working with Birdman again.
“It’s business. I have family, I have kids, I have a mother. I have bills. It’s business,” Wayne said. “Once the business is right then everything is right. I did feel that way and I didn’t take the tweet down because I still feel that way. Until something is done about it then maybe it’ll change.”
