Years after numerous claims of police and FBI watching Hip Hop artists and executives, there comes a documentary that shines light on the subject. Director Don Sikorski has spent the last three years putting together Rap Sheet: Hip Hop and the Cops.

The documentary features some of the game’s biggest names including Cam’Ron, Beanie Sigel and The Game. Even emcees who have had no major legal troubles like Kanye West spoke out.

“Anybody in hip-hop that’s got a name, got a voice, is a target,” says Philly emcee Sigel.

So what would make a man want to document law enforcements watchful eye over the music that started out in the park over three decades ago?

“About three years ago, there were these rumors going around about some sort of covert unit out of the NYPD, and I had some friends in the hip-hop industry, so I started poking around to see what the story was,”Sikorski told MTV.com.

In his attempt to get down to the truth, he may have gotten more than he bargained for. Sikorski says that in the last three years, he has become a target, similar to the way his film subjects are.

In addition to some unidentified figures watching and photographing his moves, he says he also had other strange occurrences.

“These guys are watched,” he says of those in the industry. “And I got a few phone calls here and there saying, ‘Don’t put this film out.’ “

Sikorski said there was about a month and a half period in which he received no mail.

A special screening of the film will take place April 6 at the IFC Film Center in New York.

Watch out for those cameras.
