R. Kelly‘s concert – scheduled this evening at the University of Texas at Austin – will be met with a protest from the universities female students who disapprove of his current charges of child pornography.
Feminists of Color United, a student organization on the campus, said the objective of their planned rally is to raise awareness of sexual violence against women of color. “We’re students on this campus and we feel that we would like the university to more carefully scrutinize the people that they bring to campus,” commented Jacqueline Smith of Feminists of Color United.
Although Kelly is currently awaiting trial for 14 counts of child pornography, all systems are go for tonights 8pm curtain.
To justify booking the multi-talented singer/songwriter, Tim Neece, Performing Arts Center Assistant Director, said “The University of Texas performing arts center is striving to bring the best in art and music in all genres and we’re working hard to broaden our audiences and diversify our programming to do that.”
