Reports surfaced recently that Lauryn Hill owes $438,221.31 to the government after a tax lien was filed June 30 in New Jersey. There is also a separate open case from 2012 that says she owes $446,386.60 in taxes.
This comes after the Fugees singer served time in prison in 2013 for tax evasion when she owed a reported $1 million to the feds.
Ms. Hill has responded to the reports, saying the latest filing is an extension of her past financial troubles and nothing new. She says that she is working on becoming financially stable and has actually made a lot of progress.
She also made headlines this year for no-showing a surprise performance with The Weeknd at the 2016 Grammys, but the two played together a few days later on Jimmy Fallon’s late night show.
