July 12 would have been Donda West’s 67th birthday.

To mark the date, Kanye West posted an emotional tweet to his late mother, who died at the age of 58 in 2007 from heart failure relating to complications from surgery.

In the tweet, the “Famous” rapper addresses his mother directly, referencing something his three-year-old daughter North said. “NORI ASKED IF THE AIRPLANE COULD TAKE HER TO HEAVEN TO SEE YOU FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY, I LOVE YOU MOM” he wrote, accompanied by an old photo of him and his mother.

Donda West has been a strong influence on her son throughout his career, with Kanye penning a tribute to her titled “Hey Mama” on 2005’s Late Registration album and naming his creative agency after her.

His 2014 collaboration with Paul McCartney, “Only One,” was sung by Kanye from his mother’s perspective, speaking to her granddaughter North, who was born after she’d passed away.

Recently, he’s also working on a video game dedicated to his mother, which shows her journey to heaven on a winged horse.

He’s also supported Donda’s House, a Chicago-based charity that provides access and instruction to young artists.
