Terrance Howard may be reaping the benefits of acting like a pimp in Hustle and Flow, but you won’t catch him playing the role anywhere else in life.
Howard turned down an offer to perform the Academy Award nominated It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp at this Sunday’s Oscars. According to The Mirror a UK publication, the actor (who is also nominated for Best Actor for his role as DJay) was approached by several of Hollywood’s elite and asked not to perform the song.
Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington and hip hop pioneer turned actor Will Smith asked Howard to decline the offer.
“Sidney Poitier said, ‘Do not get up there and represent the African American community singing about a pimp,’” actress Eva Longoria told The Mirror.

With Howard out, Memphis native sons Three 6 Mafia will make history as the first hip hop group to perform at the Oscars.
Taraji P. Henson, who did the hook for the song will join Triple 6 on stage.
According to Oscar’s producer Gil Gates, the word “bitch” will not be taken out of the song. However, DJ Paul, Juicy J and Hypnotize Minds affiliate Frayser Boy went through the song line for line making sure it would meet the FCC friendly.
