Ray J says Naomi Judd referred to grits as “slave food.”
In true reality show fashion, the reality cooking series My Kitchen Rules has yet to air, and already the show is sauteing in controversy. Shortly after country music singer Naomi Judd labeled Ray J a “bad boy,” and blasted other contestants on the show, Ray J has fired back at the My Kitchen Rules judge.
In a video uploaded to social media, Ray J recalled a racist encounter he witnessed on the set of the show. According to Ray J, Judd declared that she would never eat grits because she considers the heavily popular dish “slave food.”
“Yo, just heard some disturbing news,” Ray J says in the video. “I’m driving over here to do the cooking show for Fox. Ms. Judd got some disturbing things to say about me, about Brandi, about people on set. The minute I walked in, I said ‘Listen, I’m engaged. I’m doing a new thing in my life. I’m happy that I’m a part of a show like this.’ Got on set, and maybe I was tripping when she said that she didn’t like grits because it was slave food or that she would rather starve than eat grits. I don’t know what was going on, but I felt uncomfortable. And now this comes out. It’s just not cool. I thought we was just trying to be people in America and kinda look past color. And look past racism. But this smells like some racism.”

TMZ previously reported that Judd no longer wanted to appear on My Kitchen Rules after learning that Ray J, Housewives star Brandi Glanville, and comedian Andrew Dice Clay were to appear as contestants.
The musician is reportedly glued to the show due to a contract she signed.
