In tragic news, James Yancey, bka J-Dilla and Jay Dee, passed away Friday.
The Detroit producer and emcee suffered from the incurable disease lupus and died from liver complications.
Lupus causes the body’s immune system to go into overdrive and attack the body’s healthy cells. Dilla was diagnosed with the disease 3 years ago.
The founding member of Slum Village is one of the most talented and respected producers to ever get behind the boards.

Dilla has produced for the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Pharcyde, Janet Jackson, Busta Rhymes, Common, The Roots and D’Angelo. My condolences to his loved ones. RIP.
