Ja Rule was made a spectacle after he said on Twitter that Michael Jordan makes money from the viral crying Jordan memes.
“This why I love America,” Ja Rule says according to a screenshot captured by Essence, “while we all laughing at the Jordan crying face he gets a 1$ every time it gets post. Jokes on us!!!”
The crying Jordan meme has become one of the most viral images to be photoshopped during sports matchups, music releases or any other pop cultural phenomenon to describe someone who suffered a loss. The original image is from the Chicago Bulls legend’s 1999 induction ceremony into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. People do not make money when they are the subject of memes because the photos are manipulations that are posted on social media, which is generally not regulated by copyright law.
The New York legend removed his original post and then went on to tease his nearly 200,000 followers. Some sent him memes of himself photoshopped with crying Jordan on the cover of his Unruly book and his Twitter profile picture.
