It’s hard to believe that not too long ago, the Grammy’s didn’t recognize hip hop at all. Times have definitely changed, with hip hop and R&B artists.
Kanye West, is nominated for album of the year for his sophomore effort, Late Registration. Comeback queen Mariah Carey is also nominated for album of the year for The Emancipation of Mimi (West also did production on that disc).
Common, who returned to hip hop prominence this year with his G.O.O.D. Music debut, Be is nominated for several awards including Best Rap Album and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for They Say with label mate John Legend.
