This week, David Bowie’s  album (pronounced “Blackstar”), dethroned Adele’s 25 album in her fifth week on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart. Bowie’s album was released two days prior to his death on January 10. It sold 180,819 album equivalent units. Many projects from the late artist appear on the chart, including Best of David Bowie appearing at #4.

R&B Stays Strong

The Weeknd remains the highest-selling Rap & R&B artist with Beauty Behind the Madness landing at #6.Bryson Tiller reaches a new height with Trapsoul climbing to the #8 spot after cracking the Top 10 last week.

G-Eazy Climbs Back Into Top 10

G-Eazy climbs back into the Top 10 with When It’s Dark Out. In its sixth week on the chart, the album sold 28,742 album equivalent units. The LP debuted at #5 in December, doubling Rick Ross’ numbers for Black Market, which was released on the same day.

J. Cole’s Tremendous Staying Power

J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive jumped 21 percent in album sales this week, landing at the #16 spot. The North Carolina rapper premiered his homecoming concert documentary January 9 on HBO.
