Najee Ali is at it again. After protesting billboards for 50 Cent’s debut movie, Get Rich or Die Trying, Ali now has his sites set on The Boondocks and the show’s use of the “N word.”
This editor firmly defends everyone’s right to the First Amendment, but I think that we (or at least I) can safely file this “battle” under the list of “dumb sh*t in America.” To be offended is one thing, but to protest the show?!?! Come on man, Black America has much more pressing issues to deal with.
“The N-word should not be used by anyone,” says Ali. “I can’t and never have supported anyone using the N-word. In Aaron McGruder’s case, there can be no exception. The N-word represents a horrible part of our past, a painful reminder of slavery. When black people were lynched, that often was the last word they heard as they hung at the end of a rope.”

Aaron McGruder, the show’s creator defends the use of the “N word” both on the show and in the comic strip.
“I think it makes the show sincere,”McGruder says, defending his use of the term. “I just think that at a certain point, we all have to realize that sometimes we use bad language. And the ‘N word’ is used so commonly, by not only myself, but by a lot of people I know, that it feels fake to write around it and to avoid using it.”
Don’t get it twisted, I’m not defending the show (though I laughed… loudly when I heard ”Don’t trust them new niggas over there”), but questioning a man’s intentions.
The Boondocks comes on Sunday nights, in prime time when children should be sound asleep. Adults should be free to partake in ANY form of entertainment they see fit, even if some find it offensive.
