After over 30 years of existence, hip-hop is getting an encyclopedia. The Encyclopedia of Rap and Hip Hop Culture will hit library shelves and online book stores this New Year’s Eve.
This is the first comprehensive reference book that will cover all four forms of the culture: emceeing, deejaying, breaking and graffiti art. Scholar Yvonne Bynoe, the books author is no stranger to the game. Bynoe’s been writing about the game for over ten years.
“Hip Hop has existed for over thirty years and has become part of mainstream American culture, yet until now there was not one source for thorough information on the subject,”Bynoe says of the book. “The Encyclopedia of Rap and Hip Hop Culture will be an indispensable reference book for people who want to educate themselves about Hip Hop and the people who contributed to it.”
The Encyclopedia of Rap and Hip Hop Culture contains 500 entries, 100 photos, a discography and a reference guide “for further listening.”
