After a long run on the mix tape circuit and a scene stealing verse on the club banger ”Lean Back”, Remy Ma will release her debut album, ”There’s Something About Remy (Based on a True Story)” December 6.
While Remy is just now getting mainstream success, this album has been in the works for nearly a decade. The late Big Pun had been trying to get this album out since he took the Terror Squad First Lady under his wing. After hearing her spit, he began to mentor Remy, who is also a poet.
The end result was a string of collaborations with some of hip-hop’s heavy hitters including Eminem, Mase, the late Big L and the King of Crunk, Lil Jon. Even with all those collaborations, the world first raised its eyebrow to her when she held her own among M.O.P. and Busta Rhymes on the street classic ”Ante Up” remix.
Remy Ma is now set to take center stage this winter with an album that showcases more than just the hard spitting female emcee the world is used to. In fact, there are a couple tales of love on the album.

The Alchemist produced “Thug Luv” features an unreleased Big Pun verse that tells of an unbreakable bond between a Puerto Rican boy and a Black girl from the Boogie Down. With “Can’t Nobody”, Cool & Dre craft a grimy backdrop for Remy’s tough persona. On “Feel So Good”, she joins Def Jam’s newest R and B sensation Ne-Yo and reveals a more sensitive side.
“It’s hard for me to get real gushy gushy on record,” she says, “but it’s a nice love song, like on some ‘I love you, but I’m not sweating you and I won’t stab your car tires.’ It’s nice.”
The album will be released on SRC/Universal Records
