Hurricane Katrina left a devastating mark on the United States. It will go down in history as a tragic event. In times of crisis, it is said that heroes step up. In hip-hop, one hero has definitely done this.
According to reports, Dr. Dre has donated one million dollars to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Dre did more than simply write a check. It is said that he decided which families needed aid the most. 50 families will receive twenty thousand dollars each.

Aware that some fraudulent fund raisers are running rampant, Dre said, “I wanted to be sure that my donation went directly into the hands of hurricane victims.”

While many mourn the losses and damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, it’s great to see the Hip-Hop community helping out. While some emcees perform benefit concerts and raise money various other ways, this shines a positive light on the culture. Like Dre said on 2001, “Times is changin’.”

Luckily, Hip-Hop is helping things change in the right direction.
