Marvel Comics has released a series of comic book covers inspired by Rap album covers. The “Marvelized” versions of album art from Nas’ Illmatic, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic and N.W.A’s Straight Outta Compton were among the ones Marvel Comics’ Editor-In-Chief Axel decided to include in Marvel’s initiative.

This is the soundtrack to my life, and I also know this is the soundtrack to a number of other people’s lives that work in comics,” Alonso says during an interview with MTV News. “And that group has grown, and grown over the years. I’ve been in comics now for some 25 years, and I’ve noticed that there are more and more people of all races who are into hip-hop. This is the music that they listen to.”

In July, Marvel released several Rap-inspired covers. X-Men’s comic book cover gives a nod to De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising, while Howard The Duck’s cover pays homage to Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version.  A$AP Rocky’s Long.Live.ASAPis reimagined on Sam Wilson’s comic book cover and The Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready To Die was the model for the Ant-Man cover.

Alonso says the initiative is consistent with how Marvel conducts business.
