While Lecrae gets most of the accolades when it comes to the Christian sub-genre of Hip Hop, producer/rapper Thi’sl’s grind and output may get overlooked but is still impressive.

Recently sitting down with Wade-O Radio, the St. Louis-based artist spoke about his collaborative “Yesterday” track with southern rap legend Scarface. Thi’sl explains how it came together.

“He called my phone and his manager was like, ‘Yo Face on the line, he want to talk to you man,'” he recalled when asked about the collaboration. “He like, ‘Face.’ I’m like, ‘For real?’ He like, ‘Yeah he on the phone right now.’ He like, ‘What up with it man!’ I’m like cheesing though [it’s] Scarface. He was like, ‘I just want you to hear it straight from me. I got you, I got the record, I’m going to do the record. So I’m like, ‘Alright, bet OG, bet!'”

The rapper also talked about the content of the track and what it meant to him to collaborate with Face.

“On the second verse I talk about this little kid, Marcus Johnson from St. Louis that was 6-years-old that got killed this year, so I talk about that on it,” he said in describing the song. “I grew up listening to Face and when you young and you think something can’t happen and then you get the record with him.”

Thi’sl released his most recent projectHeavy is the Head August 14. The mixtape features 14 tracks including “Yesterday.”
