Al Pacino helped usher in hip-hop’s fascination with gang life. Today, rap stars idolize names like Gotti and Capone, but both Hollywood hip-hop have been slow to embrace infamous black gangsters.

Enter “The Noonie G. Story”, narrated by Chicago icon Common, this documentary follows Harold “Noonie” Ward’s rise in the ranks of The Gangster Disciples, and later into the world of Chicago business and politics. Once known as one of the largest criminal organizations in the United States, Ward helped turn the Gangster Disciples into a service and business oriented group. Ward’s story was also highlighted in the spring 2005 edition of F.E.D.S. Magazine.

Coodie and Chike (Kanye West’sThrough the Wire, Jesus Walks and Two Words) will direct the documentary, which will be filmed in Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit, Los Angeles, and New York.
