Talib Kweli is putting his talent where his mouth is. The emcee who personified “The Beautiful Struggle” has signed on for the Black August concert, which will be headlined by Black Star’s other half, Mos Def.
According to Ticketmaster.com, tickets for the event sold out yesterday, July 20. This year’s theme focuses on HIV/AIDS prevention not only within the hip-hop community, but also in the continent of Africa.
“Black August is an outlet that continues to provide a voice to those who consider themselves voiceless in this world,” says Black August co-coordinator Meron Wondwosen. “We are excited to have Talib Kweli… on board to lend [his] talents to shout for the millions of young people in Africa and the Hip Hop community that are struggling with HIV/AIDS.”
Along with Talib Kweli and Mos Def, Smif and Wessun and Black Moon will also perform. Previous performers for Black August have included Fat Joe, David Banner and Erykah Badu. This year’s show will take place August 7 at B.B. Kings Blue’s Club in New York City.
